About me
Hi, I’m Eleanor Casey, the founder of Home Biotica. I’m an Independent Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP), specialising in mould and moisture assessments, environmental health, and evidence-based reporting.

With more than 14 years of experience in environmental regulation, compliance, investigations, and public safety, I bring a strong scientific and regulatory foundation to every inspection. My career includes senior roles in environmental protection, waste reform, statutory investigations, emergency response and incident management across both South Australia and Western Australia.

Before starting Home Biotica, I worked as a Senior Environmental Adviser at the Environment Protection Authority (SA), where I handled complex compliance issues, led regulatory projects, provided specialist advice on development applications, collected scientific evidence, mentored staff, and undertook drone-based environmental surveys. My earlier role as an Investigator saw me managing intelligence-led investigations, preparing prosecution briefs, interviewing witnesses, and collecting soil, water and asbestos samples for evidentiary purposes.

This background has shaped my methodical and science-driven approach to indoor environmental assessments. But it was my personal experience that transformed my career direction.

A Personal Lived Experience With Mould
In 2020, my husband and I moved onto our 4-acre property near Ashbourne on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Not long after, we experienced a series of significant water events — including flooding, a dishwasher leak affecting multiple rooms, and a leaking shower recess caused by a failed waterproof membrane. Each incident required restoration and resulted in mould impacts throughout our home.
In 2024, while on maternity leave with my third child, I found myself struggling with chronic congestion, recurrent respiratory symptoms, headaches, insomnia, fatigue and persistent brain fog. As a trained environmental professional, I suspected our home environment was playing a role — but finding someone qualified, independent, and experienced in mould assessment was incredibly difficult.
That frustration became a turning point.
I began researching everything I could about indoor air quality, mould-related illness, moisture dynamics, and building science. This led me to complete the Mould Technician Certification through the Australian College of Environmental Studies founded by the inspiring Dr Nicole Bijlsma, author of one of my most highly recommended books, Healthy Home Healthy Family.
This combination of professional expertise and personal experience is at the core of Home Biotica. I understand the emotional, physical and financial stress of dealing with mould and water damage because I’ve been there myself — as a homeowner and as a parent trying to keep my family healthy.
Why I created Home Biotica
My mission is simple:
To provide independent, high-quality inspections that give people clarity, confidence, and real solutions for creating healthier homes.

I believe every family deserves to feel safe in the place they spend most of their lives. Through Home Biotica, I combine:
-
strong environmental science
-
regulatory and investigative experience
-
building biology principles
-
my own lived experience
to deliver inspections and reports that are accurate, compassionate, and truly helpful.

Outside of work, I’m a mum of three, and life on our hobby farm keeps us grounded, connected to nature, and continuously reminded of the importance of a healthy home and lifestyle.
